‘Abnormalities’ in case: Jordan

Steven Nelson

A former FBI official has reported “abnormalities” in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said Friday.

Steven D’Antuono, then the assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington field office, said no US Attorney’s Office had been assigned to the case when Mar-a-Lago was raided in August, according to Jordan (R-Ohio).

D’Antuono “didn’t understand why there wasn’t a US Attorney assigned,” Jordan wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“D’Antuono indicated that he ‘never got a good answer’ and was told that the National Security Division would be handling this matter.”

The ex-fed said he opposed the raid and suggested that Garland or FBI head Christopher Wray sought the search warrant “despite opposition from the line agents working this case,” Jordan added.

The FBI declined to comment. The Justice Department and Judiciary Committee Democrats didn’t respond to queries.
