Florida is Jaws-some

Selim Algar

Even sharks love hanging out at Florida’s beaches.

The Sunshine State led the world in “unprovoked” shark bites in 2022 — with 16 of the 57 global attacks, or 28%, according to the University of Florida’s International Shark File study.

None of Florida’s attacks last year were fatal — although two bull-shark assaults required amputations, said the annual report. The only fatal US attack last year took place in Hawaii, the report said.

The global shark-attack total was down last year and tied with 2020 for the lowest number in the past decade.
