Say yes to the dress

A Christian Dior gown that Elizabeth Taylor wore to the 1961 Oscars has been missing since that eventful night when the actress won for her role in “BUtterfield 8,” Page Six Style reports. She wore the dress with opera-length gloves and diamond-andpearl earrings and took then-husband Eddie Fisher as her date. But according to Kerry Taylor Auctions, the gown was located this summer — more than 60 years later — in a suitcase in London, where Taylor and Richard Burton owned a home and frequently visited. Close pal and employee Anne Sanz told the auction house that the dress, which features a pale yellow chiffon bodice with a voluminous white skirt and chartreuse embroidery, was worn only once but Taylor regarded it as a “lucky charm” and would carry it with her on her travels. Up until the 1961 awards, Taylor, who died in 2011, had been nominated for Best Actress and lost three years running. Sanz says that in the ’70s, Taylor was tired of toting so much luggage and gifted tons of her wares — including the dress — to Anne. It was in a plastic suitcase. The dress and other valuable goods from the actress will be up for auction Dec. 6.
