MLB: Phillies get 10,000th victory

Nick Castellanos homered and doubled twice against his former team while Rhys Hoskins had two homers and drove in five runs to power the Phillies past the Reds in Cincinnati 11-4 Tuesday for the 10,000th win in franchise history.

● In Milwaukee, Victor Caratini hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to give the Brewers a 5-4, walk-off victory over the Dodgers.

● In Toronto, Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman hit back-to-back home runs and the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 4-2, giving surging Baltimore its 10th win in 14 August games.

● In Miami, Nick Fortes hit two solo homers and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, leading the Marlins to a 4-3 win over Padres. The Marlins ended a stretch of scoring three runs or less at 16 games, the second-longest drought in the division era.

● In Cleveland, Kerry Carpenter homered for the second straight game and the Tigers edged the Guardians 4-3.

● In Minneapolis, Sonny Gray matched his season high with 10 strikeouts and Gio Urshela had four hits as the Twins beat the Royals 9-0. The Twins moved within a game of AL Central-leading Cleveland.

● In Chicago, Yoán Moncada hit a goahead single in the eighth inning for the second straight game, and the White Sox rallied to beat the Astros 4-3. The White Sox earned their fifth straight win to move within a game of AL Central leader Cleveland.

● In Pittsburgh, Nick Pivetta pitched one-hit ball over seven shutout innings for his first win since June 24, and the Red Sox 5-3 victory over the Pirates.

NFL: Lock out with COVID-19

Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock tested positive for COVID-19, shortly after coach Pete Carroll told reporters that Lock would start the team’s next preseason game against the Bears. Instead, Lock will miss Thursday’s game and Geno Smith will lead Seattle as the team’s quarterback competition heads into the home stretch.

● Matthew Stafford showed no throwing limitations while fully participating in a scrimmage with the Rams, further underlining the Super Bowl-winning quarterback’s declaration that his injured elbow will be fine. Stafford made all sorts of throws during the lengthy scrimmage at the Rams’ training complex, and coach Sean McVay said he was pleased by the latest step in the veteran quarterback’s increased workload.

● The Patriots put veteran cornerback Malcolm Butler on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced. Butler, 32, rejoined the Patriots in the offseason after a one-year retirement. The two-time Super Bowl champion signed a two-year contract worth up to $9 million with the Pats in March.

● The Browns lost their new man in the middle. Starting center Nick Harris was officially placed on injured reserve and will miss the season with a knee injury suffered on the second snap of Cleveland’s exhibition opener last week in Jacksonville.

● Buccaneers wide receivers Mike Evans and Russell Gage will not practice with the team during its joint session this week with the Titans, coach Todd Bowles said.
