NCAA: FSU stuns No. 2 Duke in OT

RayQuan Evans made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left in overtime, John Butler blocked Wendell Moore Jr.’s driving attempt in the lane with 2 seconds remaining, and Florida State edged No. 6 Duke 79-78 on Tuesday night in Tallahassee, Fla. Caleb Mills had 16 of his 18 points in the second half and overtime for Florida State. Paolo Banchero had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Duke.

In Morgantown, W.Va., LJ Cryer scored a career-high 25 points in his second start of the season, and No. 5 Baylor defeated West Virginia, 77-68.

In Norman, Okla., Jalen Wilson scored 16 points, Christian Braun hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 10.9 seconds left, and No. 7 Kansas beat Oklahoma 74-67.

In Hartford, Conn., Adama Sanogo had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead No. 25 UConn past Butler 76-59. R.J. Cole had 17 points to lead the Huskies.

In Richmond Va., Luka Brajkovic had 19 points as Davidson extended the nation’s longest win streak by earning its 14th consecutive victory, edging VCU 63-61.

In West Long Branch, N.J., Elijah Joiner scored a career-high 24 points and Iona beat Monmouth 86-85 in overtime. Walker Miller had 22 points to lead the Hawks.

In The Bronx, Jacob Gilyard matched his career high with a season-high 31 points and Richmond beat Fordham 83-70. Darius Quisenberry had 23 points and eight assists to lead the Rams.

NBA: Mitchell out with concussion

Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell entered the NBA’s concussion protocol on Tuesday. Mitchell, 25, is believed to have sustained the injury during the first half of a 101-95 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Anthony Davis received medical clearance from a sprained MCL in his left knee to join the Lakers in practice sessions without limitations.

A torn elbow ligament could sideline Clippers forward Paul George into February. ESPN reported George’s torn right ulnar collateral ligament remains a concern and will keep him idle “a few more weeks.”

Lusia Harris, who was the only woman to be drafted by an NBA team (the Jazz in 1977) and scored the first points in women’s basketball history at the Olympics, died Tuesday, her family announced. She was 66.

NHL: Capitals beat Jets in OT

Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 27th goal of the season, Tom Wilson scored 26 seconds into overtime and the Capitals beat the Jets 4-3 in Washington.

The first black player to appear in an NHL game, Willie O’Ree became the 12th player in Bruins franchise history to have his number retired prior to Boston’s 7-1 loss to the Hurricanes at TD Garden.

In Ottawa, Michael Houser made 43 saves in his season debut and the Sabres beat the Senators 3-1. Ottawa’s first home game since Dec. 11 was played without fans because of COVID-19 regulations.

BLOTTER: Ex-Bear sentenced

Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Hampton was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to a drunken-driving charge last month in Indiana. Hampton, 64, had an open jug of wine in his truck and a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when he was stopped by Winfield police in November.
