Cop, suspect wounded

An NYPD cop and a teen were both shot when the suspect’s gun went off during a tussle in The Bronx on Tuesday night, police sources said.

The struggle broke out after the officer approached the armed teen on Lorillard Place near Third Avenue in the Belmont section at about 9:30, the sources said.

At least one bullet was fired from the teen’s gun, grazing the cop in the left shin and hitting the 16-yearold in the foot.

The officer did not fire his gun, the sources said.

The wounds sustained by both the cop and teen were described as not serious.

The youth was out on probation for a May 2020 gun bust. When he was just 14, he was arrested outside a building on Hughes Avenue in The Bronx with a semiautomatic handgun, according to the sources.

The cop has been with the department for three years. Both he and the suspect were taken to hospitals.

The NYPD, in a post on Twitter, urged people to avoid the scene as police searched for clues and evidence. Joe Marino,
