Hochul builds on huge poll lead

With her two biggest rivals now out of the race, Gov. Hochul holds a commanding lead in the Democratic primary for governor, according to a Siena College poll released Tuesday.
New York’s first female governor captured the support of 46% of Democratic voters in the survey taken from Jan. 9 to Jan. 13.
That places her 34 points ahead of secondplace finisher, former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who announced Tuesday that he will not run. He netted 12%.
State Attorney General Letitia James left the race in December and was not included in the poll.
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams received 11%, followed by Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi, with 6%.
Another 22% said they either didn’t know or had no opinion, and 2% supported someone not listed in the poll.
Hochul’s backing soared past the 36% she got in a similar Siena poll taken from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, in which James received 18%.
Hochul’s biggest support comes from upstate, where 65% backed her. No other candidate broke into double figures there.
The poll queried 417 Democrats and has a margin of error of 5.4 percentage points.
