No. 25 Seton Hall flattens DII Nyack

Seton Hall had a trio come off the bench and combine for 66 points, leading the No. 25 Pirates to a 113-67 victory over Division II Nyack on Saturday at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J.

Tyrese Samuel had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Jamir Harris scored 23 points and Tray Jackson had 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Seton Hall (7-1).

Nyack (2-5) led by as many as six in the first half before the Pirates took a 23-17 lead thanks to a 14-2 run. They entered halftime ahead 48-33.

Alabama 91, Gonzaga 82

In Seattle, Jaden Shackelford scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half, Jahvon Quinerly and JD Davison both hit key 3-pointers, and the No. 16 Crimson Tide (7-1) held off the thirdranked Bulldogs’ big second-half rally.

Alabama made 10 of their 13 3-pointers in the first half, led by Shackelford’s sharp shooting from deep. The Tide led by 16 at halftime and withstood every charge the Zags (7-2) made in the second half to hand Gonzaga its second loss in three games.

Gonzaga trailed by as many as 18 at the beginning of the second half but pulled within 76-72. The Bulldogs missed several chance to cut the deficit, and Davison and Quinerly hit consecutive 3-pointers to give the Crimson Tide a big cushion.

Villanova 81, St. Joseph’s 52

In Villanova, Pa., Collin Gillespie scored 23 points to lead the No. 6 Wildcats (6-2) over Saint Joseph’s (4-4). Justin Moore added 16 points and Eric Dixon had 12 for Villanova.

BYU 74, Missouri St. 68

In Springfield, Mo., Alex Barcello scored 21 points, Te’Jon Lucas added 17 and the No. 12 Cougars (7-1) pulled away in the final 90 seconds to stave off the Bears (4-4).

Tennessee 69, Colorado 54

In Boulder, Colo., freshman Kennedy Chandler scored 16 of his seasonhigh 28 points in the first half and the No. 13 Volunteers (6-1) pulled away from the Buffaloes (6-3).

UConn 88, Grambling St. 59

In Storrs, Conn., R.J. Cole scored 18 points to help the No. 17 Huskies (8-1), who were playing without two injured starters, rout the Tigers (3-6).

Mississippi 67, Memphis 63

In Oxford, Miss., Jarkel Joyner scored 20 points and Mississippi (6-2) converted 10 of 11 free throws in the final four minutes to knock off the No. 18 Tigers (5-3).

USC 63, Washington St. 61

In Pullman, Wash., Chevez Goodwin sank a layup and the free throw with 16 seconds left to lift the No. 20 Trojans (8-0, 2-0 Pac-12) over the Cougars (6-2, 1-1).

Michigan St. 81, Toledo 68

In East Lansing, Mich., Max Christie had 14 points, Gabe Brown scored 12 and the No. 22 Spartans (7-2) built a big lead early to beat the Rockets (6-2).

Wisconsin 89, Marquette 76

In Madison, Wis., Johnny Davis scored 25 points to lead four Wisconsin players in double figures as the No. 23 Badgers (7-1) downed the Golden Eagles (7-2).

Wagner 78, Stony Brook 49

In Stony Brook, Alex Morales scored 19 points and nine players scored as the Seahawks (3-1), who picked up their season this week after three straight COVIDdelayed games, broke away from the Seawolves (3-4).

Syracuse 63, Florida St. 60

In Tallahassee, Fla., Cole Swider had 16 points, 10 rebounds and two big free throws in the final minute as the Orange (4-3) defeated the Seminoles (5-3) in the ACC opener for both teams.

Hofstra 88, Bucknell 69

In Hempstead, Aaron Estrada had a career-high 24 points as the Pride (5-4) topped the Bison (2-7).

Columbia 77, Maine 66

In Manhattan, Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa tied his career best with 24 points as the Lions (3-6) defeated the Black Bears (2-5).
