Family’s tragic heat death
Patrick Reilly
A couple found dead with their 1-year-old baby on a California hiking trail in August likely tried to save the girl before all three succumbed to 100-degree-plus heat, an investigative report says.
Jonathan Gerrish, 45, his wife, Ellen Chung, 31, and their daughter, Miju, died of hyperthermia and dehydration on a remote trail in the Sierra National Forest. Their dog, Oski, also died.
Obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, the report retraces their trek and says the couple likely exhausted themselves seeking aid for the heatstricken baby.
