Lying again, as from the start

By POST EDITORIAL BOARD

OUR prevaricating governor had the unmitigated gall on Monday to say he is the pandemic’s greatest truth teller.

“I am telling you as I sit here — I have told you the facts on COVID from Day One,” Andrew Cuomo said. “Whether they were easy, whether they were hard, I told you the truth.”

Cuomo lied. Again and again and again. He forced nursing homes to take COVID-positive patients, killing hundreds, then lied by saying that’s what the feds told him to do. They didn’t.

He lied about how many people died in those nursing homes.

Then he covered up that lie so he could write a book profiting off their deaths.

And no, the Department of Justice dropping a civil-rights inquiry does not absolve Cuomo. Just as Albany footdragging on impeachment does not make him innocent.

It just proves that politicians today are more shameless than ever, and have learned a frustrating lesson: If you want to get away with a lie, just keep telling bigger ones.
