US keeping travel bans

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday announced that the United States will retain broad bans on foreign visitors due to the Delta variant of COVID-19.

The restrictions will be extended despite many countries relaxing their own rules to allow US citizens to visit following widespread vaccination.

“We will maintain existing travel restrictions at this point for a few reasons,” Psaki said at her daily press briefing. “Driven by the Delta variant, cases are rising here at home, particularly among those who are unvaccinated, and appear likely to continue in the weeks ahead.”

Since January, all travelers entering the United States, including returning US citizens, have had to show they’ve recently tested negative for the virus. Steven Nelson
