OLYMPIC ‘SCORING’ THRIVES

Athlete sex-ban ‘futile’

By JENNA LEMONCELLI

An official Tokyo 2020 ban on sex in the Olympic Village is hopeless, says former Olympian Susen Tiedtke.

Tiedtke, a onetime German long jumper, says this year’s crackdown on frisky, COVID-risky behavior won’t work — because alcoholfueled romps among the competitors are inevitable.

The sex ban “is a big laughingstock for me. It doesn’t work at all,” Tiedtke told Bild, noting, “Sex is always an issue in the village.”

Tiedke, 52, who competed in the 1992 and 2000 Games, said trysts among horny young athletes can’t be stopped.

“The athletes are at their physical peak at the Olympics. When the competition is over, they want to release their energy,” Tiedtke said.

During her Olympic runs, Tiedtke claimed, coaches said sex before competing wasn’t a good idea because “when you have sex, the body first has to recharge itself energetically.”

But once an athlete finished competing, Tiedtke said, many had sex, sometimes into the early hours of the morning.

“After the competition, however, roommates were considerate if you needed the room for yourself.”

Tiedtke admitted, though, that “you always heard the ‘party’ of the others — sometimes, you

could hardly sleep.

“There is one party after another, then alcohol comes into play. It happens that people have sex and there are enough people who strive for that.”

Tiedke met her former husband, Joe Greene, a fellow long jumper during the Barcelona Games.

But she insisted they had no hanky-panky until later.

“Our competitions were toward the end of the Games,” she explained.
