D’backs Brewing up an Under

By GREG PETERSON

There have been few bright spots for the Diamondbacks, who entered their series with the Brewers having lost 40 of their past 45 games. But the team is getting healthier with pitcher Zac Gallen coming off the injured list, and he’ll look to deliver a good start on Tuesday.

Gallen has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 29 of his 33 career starts, allowing opponents to hit .209 with 0.9 home runs per nine innings and a 2.98 ERA.

The Brewers have the league’s worst batting average, but entered the series 40-32 thanks in large part to great starting pitching. Tuesday’s starter Freddy Peralta has allowed more than three runs just once in his 14 appearances this season, going 6-2 with a 2.28 ERA. Among qualifying starters, leads the NL with 4.3 hits allowed and 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Brewers rank sixth in the league in bullpen ERA in the past 30 days, including second in strikeouts per nine innings, while their lineup leads the league in strikeouts per game.

THE PLAY: Brewers-Diamondbacks total, Under 8.5 runs.
