Sanders gets SALTy

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is taking on Democratic Party leaders for supporting a repeal of the cap on deductions for state and local tax on federal income taxes.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — who represent two of the highesttax states — back repealing the $10,000 cap instituted by former President Donald Trump on SALT deductions. Sanders said that “sends a terrible, terrible message” to working-class people.

“You can’t be on the side of the wealthy and the powerful if you’re gonna really fight for working families,” Sanders said on “Axios on HBO.”

Sanders and other socialist progressives like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez say repealing the cap would be a gift for the wealthiest in high-tax states.
