Terror is transparent on broken-glass span
This hair-raising photo (above) shows a tourist left clinging for dear life on the railing of a bridge in China after its glass deck was shattered out from under him by galeforce winds.
Gusts approaching 100 mph broke the bridge apart at about 12:45 p.m. Friday, sending large sections of glass plummeting.
The man remained precariously stranded for about 30 minutes on the 300plus-foot-high span on Piyan Mountain before crawling to safety. He was taken to a hospital for psychological counseling.
The bridge has become a popular tourist destination (below), and the terrifying image has been viewed more than 4 million times on China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
“This is exactly why I dare not step on a bridge like that,” one user wrote on Weibo.
“How often did the bridge undergo maintenance?” asked another. Yaron Steinbuch
